One of the best things you can do for your pet is to keep him or her healthy. And one of the easiest and least expensive ways to do that is by bringing in your pet for regular exams and vaccinations. Dogs and cats (and other pets) age far faster than people, so significant changes in your pet’s health can happen in a short time.
Our veterinarians are experienced in providing specialized care and treatment for exotic companion animals, including ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits. We understand their unique health needs and can provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services, as well as counseling on nutrition, behavior, and general care.
If your adult dog or cat is healthy, you may have chosen a pet food based simply on whether or not your pet will eat it. Cost may also play a factor in your decision. However, not all pet foods are equal. And feeding the right amount is not as simple as following the directions on the package (they’re just guidelines).
We are a group of two Companion Animal Hospitals accredited by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, the licensing body for Veterinarians and veterinary hospitals in the province. Established by Dr. Sandi Rosely, Avonlea Animal Hospital has been serving the Mississauga Meadowvale community since July 2000. In 2007, Hollybank Animal Hospital opened to service the growing neighbourhoods in south Milton.
Choosing your pet's doctor and health care team can be a very difficult process. We can assure you that all of your pet's health care needs will be met with our hospital staff and services. Our pet care health services include wellness care, vaccinations, medical care, surgery, dentistry, x-rays, and behaviour, obedience and dietary management.
Behaviour problems are very common amongst pets. Some common conditions include separation anxiety, destruction of the home, fear and territorial aggression and house soiling. Many of the problems have a congenital and an environmental component. Our doctors are trained to help you determine the cause of the behavior problem and then advise you about how to […]
DENTAL DISEASE Almost every pet will experience some degree of dental disease in their lifetime! Plaque bacteria thrive in your pet’s mouth (ever smelled that ‘doggy’ or ‘kitty’ breath?). At first, they just live on the surfaces of the teeth and gums, but if not removed regularly by brushing or wiping, they will infect the […]
Annual Health Assessments Bringing your pet in for their annual visit is still one of the most important things you can do for his or her preventative healthcare. You can bring any questions or concerns about your pet for the veterinarian to answer. The veterinarian will ask you several questions to find out how your […]
Sometimes your pet’s behaviour/actions can tell us they are not feeling well, but other times your pet can hide disease really well. This is why annual examinations and bloodwork is so helpful. Many medical conditions can be found and treated easily with regular veterinary visits and bloodwork. At Avonlea Animal hospital we believe that your […]
MICROCHIPPING Despite your best efforts, accidents can happen and your pet could go missing. Thousands of animals end up in shelters every year. Unfortunately, many of these animals are never reunited with their families because they can’t be identified. A collar tag is a great way to identify your pet; however, if this were to […]
Just like in humans, nutrition is an important cornerstone for the health of your pet. And just like in humans, nutritional requirements change over time, depending on age, lifestyle and medical conditions. For example, cats and dogs with kidney disease require specialized diets, and small breed dogs are often prone to urinary and dental disease […]

We understand their unique health needs and can provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services, as well as counselling on nutrition, behavior, and general care.
Our doctors are available for both routine and non-routine surgeries. Prior to all surgical procedures, the patient will have a physical examination and blood work to assess for any concerns that need to be addressed prior to surgery or at the time of surgery. Presurgical blood testing allows the doctors to assess and ensure your […]
How Ultrasound Works Ultrasonography involves passing a probe over your pet’s skin after the hair has been shaved away, while it emits harmless ultrasound waves (which are like sound waves, but at a higher frequency that we cannot hear). As the sound waves bounce off tissues and structures inside your pet’s body, they are detected […]
When the immune system is exposed to an infectious agent such as a virus or bacteria, it sets to work killing and eliminating it. One of the ways it does this is by making proteins called antibodies that specifically recognize that virus or bacteria and attach to it, flagging it for white blood cells to […]

At some point your veterinarian may recommend that your pet have an x-ray (technically known as a radiograph). This is a diagnostic tool that is very helpful to literally see inside your pet’s body. Examples of things that are commonly diagnosed with radiology include: broken bones, intestinal blockages or foreign objects, heart enlargement, lung conditions. […]
Ive been to a few vets during Midnights lifetime and the service that Dr. Sandi Rosely, Kirra and team provided to my little guy was by far the best. From the diagnosis over the years to the treatment, I could feel their love and care for Midnight.
If you are looking for professionals who know what they are doing and genuinely care about your fur babies, then this is the place to bring them to.
Thank you Dr. Rosely, Kirra and team for taking care of my sweet little guy!
They explained the issue very patiently and answered all of my questions.
It was sweet of them to layout all of the costs that will incur and if I was okay to proceed.
My cat was comfortable and very happy to get more attention. She is now happily eating the wet food that they recommended for her to help with the digestive problem.
All the staff are friendly and professional👍🏻
I'm taking my dog (kayo) to this place since my dog was a puppy and he is nearly 2 years old 🙂
Buddy (short for Butterscotch... and because he is the best buddy anyone could ever ask for) just had a small surgery today and now he is home and doing great! When he was diagnosed with fatty liver disease a couple of years ago I told Dr. Rosely that I planned to syringe feed him by hand for as long as it took for him to recover. She was so encouraging and supportive and made me feel like the best cat mom ever for taking on this task. I fed him like this for over 8 months and we both loved his feeding times so much that I still feed him by hand a year and a half later.
Kira, who is a very knowledgeable vet tech, even babysat Buddy and our 19 year old border collie, Snoop, for a week which allowed us to take a short vacation. She is the only person I would have trusted to take the time and care to syringe feed him multiple times a day for 7 days:)
Laura, at the front desk, always has a big welcoming smile for us and keeps track of all his weigh-ins.
These folks who take care of our precious pets deserve all the praise and gratitude in the world:)
Many thanks from Susan and Ian
The level of care and attention provided by Amy and Ming, the technician, in explaining the intricacies of caring for my pet has been invaluable.
I would also like to commend the front desk administrator and support staff, including Rosemarie, Sarah, Russ, and Brittany. Your helpfulness, detailed guidance, and efficient communication have made my experience at Holly Vet Hospital truly exceptional.
I am genuinely pleased with the warm and welcoming atmosphere at your hospital. It is clear that everyone on your team goes above and beyond to make both pets and their owners feel comfortable. I never feel rushed or pressured, and your dedication to detailed communication and paperwork efficiency is commendable.
I am grateful for the exceptional team you have assembled, and I look forward to continuing our relationship for the care of my beloved pet.
❤️Love by Furby’s mom Irene

Many pet owners think that it is normal for pets to have bad breath. However, breath odour can be a sign that plaque (bacteria), tartar and possibly painful periodontal disease may be present. Just like people, dogs and cats need to have their teeth brushed to remove the invisible layer of plaque. In addition to […]

As temperatures start to warm up and the snow begins to finally melt, it’s time to start thinking about a danger lurking in our own neighbourhoods – TICKS! Cats and cars Who knew that banging on your car hood might save a life? When the weather turns cold, outdoor cats seek warm, quiet, secluded places to rest. What better place, then under the hood of a recently driven car that’s nice and toasty warm. The injuries that can occur include burns, lacerations, degloving […]

Feline Urination Issues The seasons are changing, and I know winter is in full swing when I start to see the appointments for cats urinating ‘inappropriately’ as we call it in the veterinary industry. Why do animals itch, bite and scratch? This seems like a pretty straight forward question but in fact finding the answer can be very complicated, time consuming and frustrating. With heat warnings in our area, a warning for pets owners to take care of your animals comes as well. In the heat, that warning means even more for certain breeds of cats and dogs. Hurray, winter is over – almost! Good-bye coats, boots and shovels and hello camping, cottaging and barbecues.
